Three programmes. One clear aim.
Whether you are starting from very little or picking up a portfolio you have never properly examined, there is a Permata programme that begins where you are.
Back to HomeHow each programme is structured.
All Permata programmes are built around the same central conviction: that the most durable financial understanding comes from reading carefully, discussing openly and having adequate time to think between sessions. We do not attempt to compress a subject into a single intensive day.
Each programme runs over multiple weeks with sessions spaced to allow the material to settle. Reading is assigned in advance; sessions are used for discussion, clarification and application rather than lecture. Questions from participants shape what each session covers.
Every session is recorded and made available to participants who miss a meeting. An online discussion forum is open throughout the programme and for three months after it concludes.

Reading Companion for Beginning Investors
Six weeks ยท SGD 240
A six-week reading companion for adults who feel they ought to understand investing better but have not yet found a calm place to start. Each week opens with a short essay by the lead reader, followed by two recommended chapters from a curated list of well-regarded books and a single discussion question for the week's online conversation. There is one optional video session each week.
The companion is suitable for those who have never bought a unit trust as much as for those who have inherited a portfolio they have never quite understood. No prior financial knowledge is assumed.
What each week includes
- 1 A short essay introducing the week's theme โ written for general readers, not professionals
- 2 Two recommended chapters from the curated book list, with brief notes on what to notice
- 3 A single discussion question posted to the online forum for the cohort to respond to
- 4 One optional ninety-minute video session with the lead reader โ recorded for those who cannot attend
- Suitable for complete beginners
- All materials provided digitally
- Forum access for three months after completion
Singapore Household Finance Programme
Eight weeks ยท SGD 420
An eight-week course covering the structures particular to a Singapore household: CPF Ordinary, Special and MediSave accounts, the Retirement Sum framework, the Supplementary Retirement Scheme, the tax treatment of dividends and rental income, and the role of SGS bonds and Singapore Savings Bonds in a quieter portfolio.
Each session runs ninety minutes and is recorded for later reference. The materials are written for readers who would like to understand the rules thoroughly rather than rely on a single piece of advice from a friend or colleague.
Topics covered across eight weeks
- 1 CPF OA, SA and MediSave โ how they work, how they interact, what you can and cannot do with each
- 2 The Retirement Sum framework โ Full, Basic and Enhanced Retirement Sums explained clearly
- 3 The Supplementary Retirement Scheme โ contributions, withdrawals and tax implications
- 4 SGS bonds and Singapore Savings Bonds as income-producing instruments in a household portfolio
- All sessions recorded for reference
- Covers Singapore-specific structures not found in general books
- Written reference materials included
The Slow Portfolio Workshop
Twelve sessions, fortnightly ยท SGD 760
A twelve-session workshop for those who would like to build a household portfolio they can live with through the next thirty years โ long enough to outlast working life, slow enough that it does not need constant attention. Sessions cover asset allocation appropriate to a later starting age, currency exposure for Singapore residents with regional family ties, the use of index funds and exchange-traded funds, and the role of cash and Singapore Savings Bonds as a quiet floor.
Sessions are fortnightly, allowing time between meetings to read, think and discuss with a household partner. The difficult question of what to do during a market downturn you are living through, rather than reading about, receives its own session.
Key sessions in the workshop
- 1 Asset allocation โ what the right mix looks like when you are starting at 45 or 55, not 25
- 2 Index funds and ETFs โ how they work, what they cost, how to hold them through Singapore brokers
- 3 Currency exposure โ managing regional ties when your salary is in SGD but your family is elsewhere
- 4 Navigating a downturn โ what to think about, what to avoid, how to stay calm when prices fall
- Designed for households โ pairs welcome at a discount
- Fortnightly sessions โ time to apply the reading
- Complimentary debrief session four weeks after completion
